First Armenians satellite launched by SpaceX rocket from Cape Canaveral
YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. The first Armenian satellite has been launched into earth orbit, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a regular government meeting on Thursday.
"Armenia's first satellite was launched into earth orbit from the launch pad in Cape Canaveral (USA) by a SpaceX rocket at 22:35 Yerevan time on May 25," Pashinyan said.
He said the launch was possible as a result of cooperation between the Armenian state-run Geocosmos CJSC and the Spanish Santlantis company.
"One of our priorities is to localize space technologies on the territory of Armenia, as well as to organize production of space equipment. A satellite control center and a receiving station will be set up by late 2023, around which a scientific research team of experts will be formed," he said.
According to Pashinyan, satellite photos will be used for border control, crisis prevention and management, environmental preservation, climate change monitoring, road and urban development. -0-
