YEREVAN, June 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) has completed calculations for new electricity prices, which are likely to come into force on August 1, a local daily "Haykakan Zhamanak" (Armenian Time) says in its today’s issue. According to the newspaper, the prices will definitely be cut, however, it could find out to what extent.
The daily says, the daytime price will not be lower than 45 drams per kWh, which is now 48.8 drams. It appears that the price will be lowered by only 3 drams. According to the newspaper, a 3 dram decrease can not be justified, since last year the rate was increased by almost 7 drams ‘for solving certain financial problems of the power system.’
"Those problems have been solved, and quickly enough, which means that the new tariff should be reduced by more than 7 drams,’ the newspaper says, adding that the price of natural gas has also been cut, which in turn has led to a decrease in the cost of electricity purchased from thermal power plants.
On May 31 PSRC allowed Gazprom Armenia to cut the price of gas for households, which consumer less than 10,000 cubic meters a month, from the current 156 drams per one cubic meter to 146.7 drams, a decrease of 6%. The price for companies, which consume more than 10 thousand cubic meters a month, has been reduced from $276.98 to $257.56 for one thousand cubic meters in dram equivalent (including VAT) at the rate of Central Bank on the 25th of each previous month. The price revision was prompted by Russia’s decision to cut the price of gas for Armenia from $165 to $150 per thousand cubic meters.
Russia is the main supplier of natural gas to Armenia, delivered by transit through the territory of Georgia. The new prices are to come into force from July 1. ($1 – 478.87 drams).--0--
