Director of ARKA news agency, Konstantin Petrosov, called today on Armenian online media outlets to stop the race for visitors when speaking at Media Today second workshop of the civil society EU-Armenia on human rights.

"Many Armenian media outlets, prompted by the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for next year are using various tricks to claim they have the largest number of visitors, which is unfair, first of all, regarding advertisers," he said.
He said leading Armenian media outlets should abandon the practice of acquiring traffic and urged advertisers to seek correct information about the popularity of this or that online resource from reliable sources such as liveinternet or Google Analytics.
He said the money used to increase the number of visits should be spent on the acquisition and creation of quality content and staff training.
‘A trusted brand is the best thing that we can build today," he said.
According to him, the small size of the Armenian market does not mean that the visitors should be offered low-quality information. Petrosov said news agencies should stop capitalizing on local rumors and portray them as news and shift instead to reporting in compliance with best international standards.
"The majority of Armenian media outlets, including on-line resources are biased, often providing information without reference to sources and therefore, suffering from one-sidedness of opinions," said Petrosov.
