YEREVAN, 20 May. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Metro is planning to replace plastic tokens with QR code payments as the city introduces a unified ticket system in all of its public transport, Vice Mayor Suren Grigiryan announced on Monday.

QR code (currently operated by Telcell) and credit card payments will be available to the passengers.

“We are currently replacing the old broken turnstiles with the new ones. Before the tokens are replaced, we’ll be keeping some of the old turnstiles that still accept those,” Grigoryan said, adding that a total of 49 turnstiles are expected to be replaced within a month.

The Yerevan Metro was opened in 1981. It currently has 10 stations and a system length of 13.4 km.
