Yerevan lunches unified ticketing system for public transportation
YEREVAN, September 15. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality has launched a program designed to introduce a unified public transport ticketing system, the press service of the mayor's office reported.
It said the launch of the program was preceded by a pilot project. As part of the program, special equipment will be installed in buses: first on German-manufactured MAN buses, then in trolley buses and the subway. By the end of the year the unified system will be available in all buses.
When the system is fully installed, passengers will not be able to pay their fares in cash: only paper tickets with a unique QR codes, permanent tickets, bank cards and TelCel mobile application will be allowed.
In the first stage, after the equipment is installed, only tickets with one-time QR codes will be available for trips, which can be purchased through the mobile application or from terminals.
The mayor's office warned that there may be some difficulties at the initial phase in using the new equipment and maintaining the system. -0-
