Yerevan Mayor Demands Tender for Construction of Waste Processing Plant by End of Year

YEREVAN, August 18. /ARKA/. Today, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan ordered a tender to be conducted by the end of the year for the construction of a waste processing plant, threatening personnel measures otherwise.

'As is often the case, we continue to fight the consequences, not the causes," Avinyan said at a meeting in the city administration.

Avinyan said that negotiations for the construction of such a plant have been ongoing for a long time and that attempts to implement international programs have failed.

"We have decided that a two-stage tender is necessary for the construction of a new plant. It is disturbing that I do not receive regular updates on this topic," Avinyan said.

He stressed that this tender must be held by the end of the year or "relevant personnel decisions will be made."

"This is one of the most important and complex issues facing Yerevan, and we can no longer hesitate. Therefore, I ask you to complete the tender by the end of the year. We cannot wait any longer,” Avinyan said.

A major fire occurred about 10 days ago at the Nubarashen landfill. Smoke and soot could be felt throughout the city, not only in the Nubarashen community. According to City Hall, the fire burned 9 hectares, but the entire landfill smoldered. -0-
