Veolia Jur blames frequent water disruptions in Yerevan on peak consumption due to heat and reduced water yield
YEREVAN, July 17. /ARKA/. Armenia's national water and sewage operator, Veolia Jur, a subsidiary of France's Veolia Generale des Eaux, blames the disruptions to the water supply schedule in some areas of Yerevan on the 'unprecedented high temperatures' recorded in the country in recent days, as well as on peak water consumption.
“The 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 9th districts of the Nor-Nork administrative district, as well as certain areas of the Nork-Marash and Kanaker-Zeytun districts, are particularly vulnerable,” the company said in a statement.
As explained by the company, the problem lies in the fact that water consumption has risen sharply in recent days, with increased use of drinking water for irrigation, which has coincided with a reduction in water yield from sources. The aforementioned administrative districts are supplied exclusively by the Katnakhpur water pipeline, and given the terrain, it is technically impossible to pump water to these areas from other sources.
Veolia Joor assured that the company is aware of the seriousness of the situation and its full responsibility.
“Our team is working around the clock, carrying out daily work to prevent water loss and restore water supply,” the company said, apologizing and assuring that the situation is temporary and that everything possible is being done to restore water supply to the specified areas as soon as possible. -0-
