YEREVAN, Feb. 1. /ARKA/. Armenian-law enforcement authorities have arrested three servicemen who are suspected of violating combat duty rules, which led to the infiltration of Azerbaijani servicemen into Armenian territory and the capture of 13 Armenian soldiers, the Investigative Committee reported today.

It said the investigation revealed that on November 16, 2021 battalion commander Major G.G. his deputy Major N.E., and Private S.M. violated the rules of organization and maintenance of combat duty, which caused grave consequences.

Particularly, Azerbaijani soldiers penetrated into the sovereign territory of Armenia, and seized an Armenian-controlled military outpost. Thirteen servicemen of 21 being at the outpost were taken prisoner, the bodies of two of them (Sahakyan Taron and Gasparyan Arsen) were handed over to the Armenian side on November 17 and 19.

Eight of the captured servicemen were later returned to the Armenian side, while three more prisoners of war are still held in Azerbaijan.

The Investigative Committee said the preliminary investigation was completed, and on January 27th the criminal case with the indictment was sent to a local court of Ararat and Vayots Dzor regions. -0-
