YEREVAN, July 27. /ARKA/. The third census in Armenia since it became independent from former Soviet Union in 1991 will be conducted from October 13 to 23 in 2022 to collect data on citizens' education, health, work and living conditions, Vardan Gevorgyan, a senior official at the National Statistical Committee, told Armenpress.

According to him, the final results will be announced in a year. "Because of the pandemic, the census has been postponed twice. It was supposed to take place in 2020 and was postponed to 2021 and then to 2022," Vardan Gevorgyan said.

By law the census is to be conducted every 10 years. The previous two were conducted in 2001 and 2011.

This year, for the first time, a combined method will be used for the census.

The main important numbers about nationality, citizenship, age, gender will be collected from the administrative registers, although these questions will also be asked of respondents later.

"We will use the administrative registries and do a 25% sample survey. The system will automatically make a selection," he said.

In other words, an enumerator will visit every 4th household in each locality and fill out electronic questionnaires using a tablet. For the first time the census will be conducted electronically. Questions will be asked of an adult who currently resides at a given address.

According to Gevorgyan, in comparison with previous censuses the questions are almost the same but some new ones are added, for example, on the state of health. All in all there will be 39 basic questions and 5 questions about living conditions.

"The law stipulates that all questions must be answered. But there are certain questions that people can refuse to answer, these are questions about nationality, language, religion. Personal information is confidential, we do not disclose it. This is defined by law. We only publish aggregate data," Gevorgyan said.

He said the summery results may be ready in the first quarter of next year, and the final ones will be in the fourth quarter of next year. -0-
