Survey reveals major problems of Yerevan residents
YEREVAN, February 11. /ARKA/. The main problem Armenia’s capital Yerevan is facing today is the poor quality of public transport, according to the findings of a survey that was conducted by the Armenian office of GALLUP International Association.
Aram Navasardyan, the head of the Armenian office of GALLUP International Association, told a news conference that the survey was conducted in Yerevan from January 24 to February 2 involving 800 citizens.
He said some 35.8% of Yerevan residents complained of the poor work of public transport, 22.9% were not satisfied with the garbage collection, some 18% complained of high food prices, 11% of unemployment, and 7.2% of lack of green zones.
Only 12.3% of the respondents were completely positive about the changes implemented in the city over the past year, another 45.8% were rather positive, 20.6% were rather negative and 12% were completely negative.
Asked to list the positive changes implemented by the municipality 39.5% mentioned garbage collection, 35.3% acquisition of new buses , 12% were satisfied with the replacement of old elevators, 8.7% with beautification of public parks (8.7%).
Asked what kind of changes they would like the municipality to implement, 18.5% mentioned expansion of green areas, 16% cleaning the city, 9.7% wanted more cultural activities for children, construction of playgrounds (8.4%), organizing sports events (6%).
The residents of Yerevan think that in order to develop tourism in Yerevan it is necessary to increase the green zones (11.6%), to keep the old buildings (8.9%), to keep the city clean (8.1%), to avoid artificial price increases for tourists (7.7%) and to restore the old Yerevan (7.2%).
The vast majority of the respondents (50.9%) evaluated the overall appearance of the city more positively, another 16.2% of respondents are completely satisfied with the look of the capital. -0-
