State Revenue Committee thwarts importation of more than 420 grams of cocaine from Spain into Armenia
YEREVAN, November 3. /ARKA/. The State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia reported the discovery of cocaine in international parcels arriving in Armenia.
Recently, SRC officers conducted a customs inspection of two parcels imported into Armenia from Spain via the HayPost company.
During the inspection, plastic bags containing 178 and 250 grams of cocaine were discovered, hidden in identical pet mattresses. It was discovered that the recipients of these parcels lived in different cities and were apparently unrelated. However, the similarity of the discovered substances aroused the suspicions of customs officials, prompting them to gather information on the potential recipients.
Following the arrival of an international courier parcel containing 178 grams of cocaine, which had been swapped with similar contents, two Armenian citizens were arrested in Yerevan on charges of drug smuggling.
During the search, one of the detainees produced a loaded drum pistol. They were detained in connection with a criminal case opened by the Investigative Committee under two articles of the Criminal Code.
Two more individuals were detained in Dilijan upon receiving a second package containing 250 grams of cocaine substituted with similar contents. They were also detained in connection with a criminal case opened by the Investigative Committee.
According to information received, one of the detainees was responsible for organizing the delivery of the cocaine found in the packages to Armenia, as well as for its receipt within the country.
The court ruled that three of the detainees will be remanded in custody, and one will be placed under administrative supervision.-0-
