YEREVAN, September 8. /ARKA/. The Armenian government on Thursday decided to make September 24, which is Saturday- a working day. Instead, September 12, which is Monday, will be a day off.
The decision is related to one of the feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church -Exaltation of the Holy Cross- marked on September 11. The following day is Merelots, when Armenians visit cemeteries to remember their passed relatives.
Earlier the government had decided to make September 17, also a Saturday, a working day, however, according to the chief of government staff David Harutyunyan, the cabinet decided to make September 24 a working day because September 18 is the day when tens of communities across the country will be having local government elections.
Merelots was first declared in Armenia a day off by the government's decision in 2008 at the suggestion of the Armenian Apostolic Church.-0-
