Renowned French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte presents two projects on Yerevan’s Cascade
YEREVAN, 17 May. /ARKA/. Yerevan’s Mayor Tigran Avinyan visited the Paris office of Wilmotte & Associés Architectes and met with Jean-Michel Wilmotte, a renowned French architect, Avinyan’s press office reported on Friday.
Wilmotte recently travelled to Yerevan where he inspected the Cascade building complex and the Noragyugh quarter of the city. During the meeting in Paris, he presented two potential projects of how to complete the Cascade complex to the Yerevan mayor that are expected to be soon presented to Yerevan’s citizens.
Wilmotte also presented a project seeking to renovate the Noragyugh quarter, located near the centre of Yerevan. The project is aimed at solving some of the city’s decades-long issues.
The Cascade is a building complex of five hillside terraces ascending a hill in the northern part of central Yerevan. Although the Cascade was constructed in the 1970s, its upper part, projected to connect the Cascade with the Arabkir district, was never finished. In March 2024, the owner of the territory, the Cafesijan Foundation, handed the Cascade over to the Yerevan authorities, upon condition that the latter complete the upper part.
