YEREVAN, June 14. /ARKA/. Armenian Labor and Social Affairs Minister Narek Mkrtchyan explained today what was the reason behind changes of disability degree of servicemen who lost limbs in the 44-day war in the autumn of 2020 in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

According to him, there is a special commission that not only assesses the disable serviceman’s health condition, but also their functionality, and based on it the final assessment is made.

On the reasons for changing the degree of disability, Mkrtchyan said that it is conditioned by the fact that the participants of the war mostly received certain degrees of disability before undergoing the prosthetics process.

"At that time, our soldiers had functionality problems. Consequently, at that time some of them were granted first degree disability," he said.

The minister specified that after prosthetics the servicemen are re-examined and if their functionality is restored, the degree of disability changes.

"In addition, under a government decision, if after the war a serviceman was granted 1st or 2nd degree disability, and after the re-examination it was changed to 3rd degree, their initial social guarantees are preserved for 3 years," he explained. -0-
