YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated during a government meeting on Thursday that the primary reasons for traffic jams in Yerevan are the rising number of vehicles and driving infractions.

He mentioned that around 12,000 cars are registered each year in Yerevan, contributing to the city's traffic issues. Avinyan also pointed out that a considerable amount of congestion is caused by violations of traffic regulations.

"Public transportation should take precedence in Yerevan. It needs dedicated lanes and should be the most convenient way to get around the city," the mayor remarked.

He revealed that a new local self-government law for Yerevan, which will introduce new regulatory frameworks, is set to be discussed shortly.

"We are working on the possibility of outsourcing vehicle towing services for cases of illegal parking," Avinyan stressed.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan added that the government receives daily correspondence about traffic congestion. He noted that a working group has already been formed to suggest solutions.

"It seems that artificial intelligence should have a more prominent role in this matter. However, we must recognize that no street or city is infinite—everything has its boundaries. We need to analyze car import data and realize that every new car eventually ends up on the same roads," Pashinyan stated.-0-
