YEREVAN, March 23. /ARKA/. The likelihood of late frosts that may damage Armenia’s fruit orchards across the country is quite low, the country’s chief weatherman Gagik Surenyan told a press conference today.

The unusually high temperatures have forced the vegetation period in the valleys of Armenia to begin  35-40 days earlier, and, accordingly, the fruit trees bloomed much earlier than usual.

"Early blossoming  is not very good, as late frosts in March are quite often, but fortunately, this year the cold air masses did not penetrate Armenia, and the air temperature did not drop. On the contrary, it got warmer in recent days and the danger of late frosts is very, very low,’ he said.

However, according to the weatherman,  the threat of late frosts in the valleys persists until April 25. "Nevertheless, I must say that with the end of March and the beginning of April the probability of frosts is much lower.," he explained.

"Right now the air temperature is much higher than normal, in addition, in the near future we expect it to grow further," Surenyan added. -0-
