Kuwait to release $100,000 in emergency assistance to Syrian Armenians

The government of Kuwait will release $100,000 in emergency assistance to Syrian Armenians, who found refuge in their ancestral country, Kuwaiti ambassador to Armenia, Bassam Muhammad al-Kabandi said today during a meeting with Armenian Diaspora minister Hranush Hakobyan.

YEREVAN, November 29. / ARKA /. The government of Kuwait will release $100,000 in emergency assistance to Syrian Armenians, who found refuge in their ancestral country, Kuwaiti ambassador to Armenia, Bassam Muhammad al-Kabandi said today during a meeting with Armenian Diaspora minister Hranush Hakobyan.

According to a statement on the ministry’s official website, during the previous meeting with the minister, the ambassador promised to report the problems of Syrian Armenians to his country’s leadership.

Ms. Hakobyan was said to detail the major problems faced by Syrian Armenians here and how they could be solved. The sides agreed that a delegation of Kuwaiti charity fund will visit Armenia soon to see the situation, and then together with the Diapsora design and implement assistance projects.

The Syrian Armenian community is said to number between 80,000 and 100,000. Most of them live in Aleppo (more than 60,000 people), Damascus, Latakia and other cities. The civil war in Syria made many Armenians to flee for their historical homeland. According to the most recent data, at present there are nearly 5,000 Syrian Armenians in Armenia. -0-
