Karabakh authorities restore partly delivery of humanitarian cargo

YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. Nagorno-Karabakh authorities managed, with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers, to restore partly the delivery of humanitarian cargoes from the Republic of Armenia, disrupted in recent days due to the illegal installation of the Azerbaijani checkpoint on the Nagorno-Karabakh - Armenian border, the Artsakh Information Center reported.
It said the bulk of the cargo are basic necessities, including food that is to be distributed by food stamps.
In December 2022, self-described Azerbaijani environmental activists, with the support of the government in Baku, blocked the Lachin corridor, the only road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia and the rest of the world.
Since then, only peacekeepers and aid convoys operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross were able to get supplies through to the 120,000 Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The local government had to introduce food rationing, while energy and gas supplies from Armenia have been periodically disrupted by Azerbaijan.
On April 23, Azerbaijan set up a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. Yerevan and Stepanakert condemned these actions and called on Moscow to eliminate this violation of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. -0-
