Issues related to issuance of ID cards addressed-ministry
YEREVAN, August 21. /ARКА/. The challenges associated with the issuance of identification cards in Armenia have now been resolved, and the situation is stable, stated Deputy Interior Minister Armen Mkrtchyan.
"At present, they are provided within a timeframe of 15 days," Mkrtchyan remarked during a government meeting on Thursday.
The deputy minister noted that, on average, 1,150 to 1,200 applications are received daily.
In Armenia, a significant number of applicants have been compelled to wait for months for their applications for ID cards and biometric passports to be processed.
As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as of April 2025, 54.2 thousand individuals were awaiting their turn to submit an application in Yerevan and its surrounding regions.
Previously, on August 8, 2024, the government decided to provide Armenian citizens with ID cards and biometric passports in a new format. The French consortium IDEMIA Identity Security France and A.C.I. Technology S.à.r.l., which won the tender, is tasked with establishing the necessary infrastructure.
In April 2025, an agreement was signed in Armenia with the HAYPASS company, formed by this consortium, which will directly implement the biometric passport and ID card system in Armenia.
According to the timeline, the issuance of these documents is set to commence in the latter half of 2026.-0-
