First cases of omicron detected in Armenia
YEREVAN, January 10. /ARKA/. Armenian health authorities have officially recorded two first cases of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Health said.
The ministry said both cases were imported to Armenia. The infected people were examined upon arrival in Armenia. The samples taken from them were also examined by sequencing, as a result of which the omicron variant was detected and officially confirmed, the ministry said.
It said also that the condition of the patients is satisfactory. They have not been hospitalized and are being treated at home.
As of January 9 morning, some 345,855 cases of confirmed coronavirus were recorded in Armenia, according to the Ministry of Health. A total of 2,604,716 coronavirus tests have been performed in the country since March 2020, when the first case was recorded. Also, some 8,001 people have died so far, another 332,886 patients have recovered, and 3,456 patients are being treated either at hospital or at home.-0-
