Fake drugs may flood Armenia – expert warns
YEREVAN, May 25. /ARKA/. Gayane Khachvankyan, head of the drug division of the National Academy of Consumers of Armenia, told journalists on Tuesday that the newly adopted law on medicaments has some faults giving room for importers of fake drugs from other countries, especially the Eurasian Economic Union member countries.

She said that fake medicaments are abundant in Russia, and they can easily be brought into Armenia.

Khachvankyan said that drug registration in one of the Eurasian Economic Union countries is effective also in all its member countries.

It means that the imported country is left with a single chance - to examine products directly while importing them.

Khachvankyan stressed the necessity of developing new mechanisms barring fake and shoddy medicaments from penetrating into Armenia. She thinks powers of the Center for Examination of Drugs and Medical Technology should be widened.

In her words, today the center examines only 10% of imports, and this increases risks of importing shoddy medicaments in the country. ---0---
