Eight out of ten complaints are about water disconnection -PSRC
YEREVAN, August 17. /ARKA/. The chairman of Armenia's Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) Garegin Baghramyan explained the reason for frequent disruptuions in the water supply system.
"Depending on the season, the demand for water increases and due to the wear and tear of water pipes, the number of accidents starts to increase," Baghramyan said at a press briefing on Thursday.
He noted that there are several types of fines for water disruptions, some of which are issued automatically when services are not provided.
Baghramyan noted that at the moment 8 out of 10 complaints received by PSRC are about water outages.
When asked what is being done to reduce the seasonal impact on the water supply system, he said that large investment is required to modernise the system.
He said the national operator Veolia has specific investment commitment in a limited amount of about AMD 3 billion (about $7.75 million) per year.
'For the whole territory of Armenia, this investment is just a drop in the ocean," Baghramyan said.
Veolia Jur cjsc is a subsidiary of the French Veolia Generale des Eaux, which manages Armenia’s water distribution network.
In 2017 it took over the management of all Armenian water distribution networks. The company won an international tender announced by World Bank to take up a long-term management of the Yerevan network in 2006. It pledged to upgrade the obsolete network and ensure 24-hour water supplies to households. --0---
