Birth rate up in Armenia, death rate down
YEREVAN, June 5. /ARKA/. The birth rate in Armenia was up 6.5% in January-April 2023 when compared to the same period in 2022, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
It said a total of 11,379 babies were born during the reporting period, up from 10,687 babies born in the first four months of 2022. However, compared to the same period of 2021, when 11,501 babies were born, the birth rate in 2023 was down 1.1%.
According to statistical data, 129 stillbirths were recorded in the first 4 months of 2023, which is 5.7% more than in the same period of 2022 and 22.8% less than in the same period of 2021.
Also, 8,714 people died in Armenia in January-April 2023, which is 17.7% less than in the same period of 2022.
The cause of death of more than half of the people (54.6% or 4,754 people) was circulatory system diseases, 19.2% less than during the same period in 2022.
The second most frequent cause of death was cancer (19% or 1,657 people, a decrease of 2.2%). Other causes of death were respiratory diseases (9.9% or 859 people, up 15.8%), digestive diseases (4.9% or 429 people, down 1.2%) and external causes of morbidity and mortality (3.6% or 319 people, up 9.2%). -0-
