Avinyan: Cost of one trip on Yerevan public transport estimated at 203 drams
YEREVAN, January 30. /ARKA/. “About 1.8 billion drams are spent monthly on the needs of the municipal Yerevan Bus company, Mayor Tigran Avinyan said estimating the cost of one trip on the capital’s public transport at 203 drams.
The mayor's office will subsidize 70 drams on average for each trip. However, the more subsidies there are, the more the development of infrastructure is delayed,” Avinyan said to the Public Television of Armenia.
He also noted that a promotion was announced – a ticket package for 2 months at the price of one, to help people get used to the new conditions. “This will allow citizens to avoid waiting for just one bus and use several for greater comfort. Pensioners and students from the regions also enjoy transport discounts in Yerevan,” Avinyan added.
According to him, the pace of reforms might slow down, meaning changes could be implemented not in two years, but in three. Avinyan outlined plans to purchase 250 new buses, improve 50 bus stops, and install boards to track transport routes.
Earlier, Mayor Avinyan set the cost of one trip at 150 drams from February 1. This change will be in effect throughout 2025. Additionally, it is planned to extend the validity of unlimited packages purchased in January and February by one month. The Council of Elders will review these proposals at an extraordinary meeting on January 31.
