Armenian police register increased cases of domestic violence

Some 784 cases of domestic violence were reported to Armenian police in 2015, up from 678 cases reported in 2014, the head of a police department, Nelly Duryan, said to a news conference today.
YEREVAN, January 15. /ARKA/. Some 784 cases of domestic violence were reported to Armenian police in 2015, up from 678 cases reported in 2014, the head of a police department, Nelly Duryan, said to a news conference today.
According to Duryan, based on the reports, law-enforcement bodies initiated 150 criminal cases, up from 76 cases in 2014.
She said also 471 cases of violence were reported by wives against their husbands, up from 410 in 2014. The number of violence used by wives against husbands rose to 15 from six in the previous year.
Duryan also said 106 cases of violence used by adult children against their parents were reported last year. There were also 65 cases of violence used by parents against their children, as well as 127 cases of violence among family members.
According to Duryan, the growth is explained by the rise of public confidence in the police and more frequent applications to law enforcement agencies for help. -0-
