Armenian parliament sets administrative punishment for discharge of sewage water into water bodies
YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. By a vote of 71 to 4 and 5 abstentions Armenia's National Assembly has passed today in the second and final reading a set of government-developed amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, which provide for administrative responsibility for the pollution of water bodies.
Deputy Minister of Environment Tigran Simonyan said the amendments supplement the Code of Administrative Offenses with new articles, which set administrative responsibility for such offenses as discharge of sewage water into drainage systems and pollution of irrigation systems.
He said the purpose is to ensure the safety of tourists on the beaches and swimmers in water bodies, to establish control over the use of the resources of Lake Sevan for industrial purposes, as well as work out preventive measures.
The amendments also specify the functions of the Authorized Body for Management of Water Systems for investigating administrative offenses and imposing fines. -0-
