Armenian mass media not subjected to pressure from state - Head of TV and Radio Commission
YEREVAN, April 5. /ARKA/. Mass media outlets in Armenia have not been subjected to any influence or pressure from the state, said Tigran Hakobyan, Chairman of the Armenian Television and Radio Commission.
"They acted freely and independently ... We have not received any complaints from TV companies, except, however, three broadcasters. Those complaints deserved attention and we certainly studied everything properly," Hakobyan said at a meeting of the parliament's Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports during the presentation of the Commission's 2022 performance report.
The head of the commission also touched on MPs' biased attitude toward journalists, noting that some parliamentarians do show a disrespectful attitude toward media representatives.
"However, these manifestations are not of any widespread nature. Therefore, we believe that these omissions can be corrected," Hakobyan said, calling for more respect for journalists and their profession. -0-
