Armenian law-enforcers arrest four taxmen on charges of bribery
YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) said today that a local court allowed October 18 to arrest four employees of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) and three other persons on charges of bribery.
According to the NSS, the head of the SRC's unit in charge of search and investigative operations together with two operatives, by prior agreement, had demanded and received a bribe from the founder and deputy director of a company registered in the capital.
In exchange for a promise to conceal some of the tax violations committed by the managers of the company, on October 16 the SRC employees were given a bribe in the amount of one million drams. Immediately after that, the SRC employees and the bribe-giver were detained.
Further, it turned out that one of the above-mentioned SRC officers from March to September 2021had been demanding bribes from five entrepreneurs working in Yerevan. In addition, he, having previously agreed with another employee of the SRC, on September 22, 2021, received a large bribe from a representative of an enterprise in the amount of 200 thousand drams.
The NSS said all the necessary procedural and operational-search measures are being carried out in order to identify the full circle of persons involved in the criminal scheme and to give an adequate criminal assessment of their actions.
A suspect or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to a court ruling that has entered into legal force in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia. ($1 - 478.27 drams). --0—
