YEREVAN, June 28. /ARKA/. Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan called on fellow citizens today to observe what he called a 'perceived' lockdown, instead of a forced one.

In a Facebook post, the minister listed the most important rules that must be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, saying that citizens should limit those of their contacts, visits, events and meetings which are not vital.

'Stay at home as long as possible, including on Saturdays and Sundays. Stop your visits to friends and relatives, to parties and picnics,' the minister said.

The minister urged fellow citizens to stop also visits to various attractions and celebrations of various events, like the birth of a child, birthdays, wedding anniversaries and others, including in their homes.

He said attending mourning events should be limited as much as possible, or better, ceased. 'Condolence expressed over the phone in an epidemic should be considered more valuable than personally expressed,' he said.

'In the evenings, you should also stay at home, do not go out and stop contacts with neighbors. Just do not talk, do not meet, stay away from each other, do not gather for coffee,' he said.

'Children, however difficult, should stay at home as long as possible. We must come up with an activity for children so that they do not go out to play in the yard. Do not visit your relatives, if there is no vital need, communicate via remote communication. This sacrifice is needed to save their own lives. Stop visiting cafes and restaurants: this is the only place where you are allowed not to wear face masks. Do not go out for evening walks. We must try to resist this temptation until the situation improves. In all other cases, it is necessary to wear masks, observe a distance of 1.5-2 m and often disinfect hands.

“There is no other way out of this situation,” the minister summed up.

A 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus was declared in Armenia on March 16 and restrictions were imposed on free movement of citizens. The government banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government extended the state of emergency for another month and on May 4 it lifted the ban on almost all types of economic activity and the free movement of citizens, except for public transport. On May 14, the government has again extended the state of emergency for another 30 days.

However, despite the extension, public transport, preschools, trading centers, restaurants and gyms have reopened starting from May 18, and  wearing of masks has become  mandatory in public spaces.

On June 12, the government has extended the state of emergency for another month- until July

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases has grown to 24,645 over the past 24 hours. The death toll from the disease has reached 426. Also, some 13,116 infected people are said to have recovered. 0-
