YEREVAN, July 22. /ARKA/. Citing a slight increase in the number of confirmed daily new cases of Covid-19 in Armenia, Deputy Health Minister Lena Nanushyan said the related statistics is worsening.

Speaking at a government meeting today she said the number of daily recorded new cases has gone above 200 over the last few days.

According to the estimates of the Ministry of Health, the upward trend will continue in the coming days.

Nanushyan said that at the moment about 3,790 people are receiving treatment for Covid-19: 606 of them are hospitalized, including 282 in serious condition and 48 in extremely serious condition. Over the past day, 2 people have died from COVID-19.

"We urge all to be vigilant; the infection has not gone away and the situation in our region is tense. The upward trend is also being reported by some European countries. However, in those countries where the proportion of vaccinated citizens is high, hospitalization and mortality are observed mainly in unvaccinated people," said Nanushyan

She recalled that the Armenian government made the vaccination free and available to all citizens, urging everyone to take advantage of the window of opportunity and get vaccinated.

Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan cited in turn WHO data, saying the coronavirus will persist for a long time, including due to mutations, and it is unrealistic to expect its disappearance, but there is good news - vaccines are effective for all strains.

"The virus will manifest itself in a new wave and strains, and efforts must be made to comply with the conditions as much as possible by mask wearing and vaccination, so that we do not have to make administrative decisions. However, if statistics force us - we are talking about tightening the mask regime, then we will have to take these measures, but the most productive way now is vaccination and we have good supplies," Pashinyan said.

Three vaccines against coronavirus are currently available in Armenia: AstraZeneca (Britain), Sputnik-V (Russia) and CoronaVac / Sinovac (China). Vaccinations are voluntary and free for both Armenian citizens and foreigners.
As of today the death tall from the disease has reached 4,575. -0-
