The government of Armenia will increase payments to medical institutions for assisting with childbirth and the care of women giving birth, Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said during an interview with RFE/RL Armenian Service.
YEREVAN, August 27. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia will increase payments to medical institutions for assisting with childbirth and the care of women giving birth, Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said during an interview with RFE/RL Armenian Service. The current payment is 107,000 drams (about $ 220).
He said as a result medical institutions will pay higher salaries to gynecologists. He said also that medical institutions will offer paid wards and other services to women giving birth.
According to Torosyan, there are doctors who are very much in demand among women in childbirth.
"Basically, they are not in the hospital constantly. We look at this problem globally; after all, this is the right of the doctor not to be on duty. Each hospital has a doctor on duty, and if a patient wants a specific doctor to assist with childbirth, then we should regulate it according to the law," Torosyan said.
The minister also noted that, despite numerous changes in the healthcare system, obstetrics in Armenia will remain free. -0-
