Armenian government plans to raise minimum wage to 63,000 drams
YEREVAN, June 19, /ARKA/. The government of Armenia plans to raise the minimum salary from the current  55,000  drams  to 63,000 drams.

It says the upward revision is prompted by the need to improve the living standards of citizens. According to a draft government decision, the calculations were made in view of the fact that the subsistence level  in the first quarter of 2019 was 63,550 drams.

The government says that based on data of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the minimum wage was already raised by 13 thousand drams  in 2015 to 55 thousand drams. Under the government’s  mid-term development plan of actions for 2019-2023, the reevaluation is to be completed until August 3. Its results will be used as a basis  to amend the relevant legislation.

Based on this, the government will address this issue after August 3 and will leave the size of the minimum wage unchanged so far.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the median salary in Armenia in 2018 was 172 thousand drams. In the public sector it was 149 thousand drams and 185,000 drams in the private sector.  ($1 - 478.04 drams). --0--
