Armenian customs officials intercept shipment of opium worth $200,000
YEREVAN, May 31. /ARKA/. Armenian customs officials intercepted a shipment of contraband opium with a market value of $200,000, Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) said today.
It said the opium was hidden in two international parcels to be sent to Australia. The opium was discovered when the parcels were going through customs clearance at a postal office. The consignor of the parcels was an Iranian citizen.
Silver tube shafts were found in each of the parcels. The shafts had been cut with a special tool and a total of 3kg 680 kg of opium was placed inside them worth more than $200 thousand.
Armenian law-enforcement authorities have launched a criminal investigation into this case, the State Revenue Committee said.-0-
