A conscript has died in Armenia after receiving a fatal gunshot wound as a result of a violation of the rules for handling weapons by a peer soldier, the ministry of defense said.

YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. A conscript has died in Armenia after receiving a fatal gunshot wound as a result of a violation of the rules for handling weapons by a peer soldier, the ministry of defense said.

The incident was reported on May 4, at about 20:00 at a combat position of a military unit located in the south of the country.

The conscript, private Artem Melkonyan (born in 2002) was drafted from Gegharkunik province. The ministry said an investigation is underway.

“The Armenian Ministry of Defense shares the deep bitterness of the loss and expresses condolences to the family members of the deceased soldier, his relatives and colleagues,” the ministry said.-0-
