YEREVAN, August 2. /ARKA/. A school with an in-depth learning of the Chinese language in Armenia was granted the status of a fund allowing it to attract foreign investments. A decision to that end was made by the Armenian government on Thursday. According to it, a high school in Yerevan named after Hayk Gulikehyan, will be restructured into the Armenian-Chinese Friendship School fund.

In accordance with the government decision, the new status will be instrumental for the school in terms of attracting investments from various sources, including from the Armenian Diaspora, for in-depth study of the Chinese language.

The government's decision states that this school will become the first link in a network of technically equipped educational institutions with an in-depth learning of Chinese. It will also serve as a platform for training of the local Chinese language teachers.

"The graduates of the school will perfectly master Armenian and Chinese languages, get acquainted with the culture and geography of the two countries, and study the achievements of Armenian and Chinese culture and history," the decision says.

The school will run also a summer school for children from Armenia, China, Artsakh and the Diaspora to compete in various contests and participate in other events.

The decision to open a school with an in-depth study of the Chinese language was made by the Armenian government in 2014. The decision stems from two agreements between Armenia and China, according to which the Chinese side will provide a total of 170 million yuans (approximately $27 million) for technical support programs. Construction of the school began in December 2015. The opening is scheduled for September 1, 2018.

The school, designed for 650 students, is to become the largest training center for teaching Chinese not only in Armenia, but also in Eastern Europe and the CIS. --0--
