Armenia to pay 300,000 drams to every WWII veteran

YEREVAN, April 30. /ARKA/. On Thursday, the Armenian government decided to pay 300,000 drams (about $ 652.6) to every WWII veteran now living in the country. The decision is made to honor the 75th anniversary of the Victory in WWII.
According to Zaruhi Batoyan, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, this one-time amount will be paid to the veterans as a 'demonstration of pride in their achievements and as a mechanism of social protection.'
"The proposal was made by the interagency commission, coordinating preparation of the celebration. The government will release 86 million drams for this event," she said.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recalled that in Armenia there are 287 WWII veterans. The veterans' monthly allowance was recently doubled to 100,000 drams ($209). ($1 - 479.52 drams). -0-
