Armenia to create DNA database for disclosure of serious crimes
YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament is discussing a bill on making a set of changes to the Law on Police, which provides for the creation of a DNA database that can be used for the disclosure of criminal offenses.

Deputy chief of Police Vardan Yeghiazaryan stated that the DNA database will be used only to identify individuals who committed serious and especially serious crimes.

"The fingerprint registration, which is the main means of identification used by law enforcement agencies, is not enough to reveal and identify individuals who committed serious and especially serious crimes," Yeghiazaryan said.

According to him, DNA databases have long been used by law enforcement agencies in all developed countries. Armenia should also create this system for more effective and efficient struggle against crime. -0--
