YEREVAN, December 27, /ARKA/. Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) has cut today the price of electricity for unsecured families by 10 drams per kWh. It said the decision will come into force on February 1, 2019.

PSRC said the decision was prompted by a surplus in the energy system of the country, allowing it to cut the price by 10.1 drams for unsecured families. As a result of this decision, unsecured families will pay 29.9 drams for electricity during the day and 19.9 for night hours.

The price of electricity for some 120,000 socially unsecured families had already been cut by 10 drams this past July. Currently, Armenian households pay 44.98 drams per 1 kWh for daytime consumption and 35 drams for night time consumption. Socially unsecured families pay 40 and 30 drams respectively.

Armenia’s national power distribution company- Electric Networks of Armenia - is owned and run by Tashir Group of Companies, owned by a Russia-based billionaire of  Armenian origin Samvel Karapetyan, who acquired the facility from the Russian energy holding Inter RAO UES in September 2015.- 0-
