The estimated resident population of Armenia as of April 1, 2018 stood at 2, 969,900 people, according to the preliminary data, released today by the National Statistical Service (NSS).

YEREVAN, April 27. /ARKA/. The estimated resident population of Armenia as of April 1, 2018 stood at 2, 969,900 people, according to the preliminary data, released today by the National Statistical Service (NSS). 

It said when compared to the same period in 2017 the number of estimated resident population declined by 11,600 people. Compared with the beginning of the year, the population number decreased by 2,800 people. 

According to the National Statistical Service, the number of the urban population as of April 1 was 1, 894,500 people (a decline of 4,500 people). The capital Yerevan had 1,077,600 population. In rural areas, the population decreased by 7,100 people to 1,075,400 people.

In January-March 2018, the number of children born in the country decreased by 3.6% to 8,225. The number of deaths decreased by 10.2% to 7,022.

On January 1, 2016, Armenia’s population was less than 3 million for the first time since the 1970s. -0-
