Armenia's permanent population stood at 2,932,731 in 2022
YEREVAN, December 15. /ARKA/. Armenia's permanent population stood at 2,932,731 people in 2022, the National Statistical Committee said in a report based on the findings of a census conducted in 2022.
The number of permanent population according to the previous census conducted in 2011 stood at 3,018,854 people. According to the 2001 census, there were 3,213,011 people permanently living in the country.
The urban population in 2022 accounted for 63.8 percent of the total and the rural population for 36.2 percent. The proportion of urban dwellers increased since 2011 (63.3 percent in 2011) and the proportion of rural dwellers has decreased (36.7 per cent in 2011).
Family status
Some 55% of resident population aged 15 years and over (2,376,706 persons) had registered marriage (1,306,786 persons). Some 24.1% never married (573,356 persons), 10.2% were widows/widowers (242,495 persons), 6.8% were actually married (161,676 persons), 2.9% were divorced (69,903 persons), 0.5% were married only according to church canons (12,566 persons), and 0.3% were actually divorced/unregistered (7,995 persons).
Level of education
Some 45% of the permanent population aged 15 and older (2,376,706 persons) had secondary education. The share of people with higher education stood at 24.9%, 1.9% were people with secondary specialized education, 8.4% were with basic education and below , 2.1% were people with primary specialized (craftsman) education and 0.5% of people were with post-graduate and higher education.
Levels of economic activity as of October, 2022
The resident population aged 15 and older (2,376,706 persons) had the highest labor force participation rate at 55.4%. This rate was dominated by males (66.5% vs. 46% of females). The labor force participation rate was 49.1%, and it is also higher among men (59.4%) than among women (40.3%). The share of the population not in the labor force was 44.6%. By this indicator, women prevail - 54% (men - 33.5%). The unemployment rate was 11.4%, with 12.4% for women and 10.6% for men.
National composition and religion
Some 98.1% of the permanent population of Armenia were ethnic Armenians. Among the national minorities, the Yezidis had the largest share at 1.1%. The Russian population accounted for 0.5%, and Assyrians and Kurds accounted for 0.1% each. 0.2% were representatives of other nationalities.
At the same time, 97.5% were followers of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The remaining 2.5% were distributed as follows: 0.6% each were Catholics and Evangelicals, 0.5% were Sharfadins, 0.2% each were Orthodox and Jehovah's Witnesses. 0.5% were members of other religions. -0-
