Armenia’s birth rate exceeds mortality

The birth rate in Armenia in the first 9 months of 2016 was by 46.4% higher than the mortality rate, Karine Kuyumjyan, the head of Census and Demography Department at the National Statistical Service, told a news conference today.
YEREVAN, November 8. /ARKA/. The birth rate in Armenia in the first 9 months of 2016 was by 46.4% higher than the mortality rate, Karine Kuyumjyan, the head of Census and Demography Department at the National Statistical Service, told a news conference today.
"The birth rate in the first nine months of 2016 was 2.3% down from the year ago to 29,914. The mortality rate was also down by 2.5% to 20,427 cases," – Kuyumjyan said. The birth rate per 1,000 people was 13.3% versus 13.6% last year, while the mortality rate decreased by 0.2% to 9.1%.
"The birth rate in the capital city Yerevan, as well as in Ararat and Kotayk provinces was higher than the national average. In all other regions it was down with the lowest decline recorded in Syunik and Tavush regions, - Kuyumjyan said. At the same time, the highest death rate was registered in Lori, Tavush, Shirak and Vayots Dzor regions. According to Kuyumjyan, the number of deaths among children also reduced to 257 from 279 in the same period last year.
Armenia’s population as of October 1, 2016 was less by 10,100 people from the year before. From the beginning of the year the total population decreased by 4,700 people due to negative migration balance. According to the National Statistical Service, the urban population stood at 1,904,600, by 6,300 people less than a year ago, while the rural population dwindled by 3,800 to 1,189,300 people. -0-
