YEREVAN, January 26. /ARKA/. Heavy snowfalls have paralyzed traffic in some regions of Armenia and restricted passage through Upper Lars border checkpoint, the only ground route connecting Armenia with Russia.

Armenia’s emergency ministry reported Thursday morning that some roads in the country are closed or heavy-going.

Roads in Tsakhkashen, Shenavan, Yegitpartush, Jambar, Avshen, Shenkani, Charchakis, Sipan, Michnatun, Lernapar, Mirak, Nigavan, Zovasar, Garnahovit and Otevan villages in Aragatsotn province are closed because of snowstorms.

Tigranashen spiral road as well as Saravan-Zanger road and also roads connecting Yernjatap, Shoghank and Melikgyukh villages are heavy-going.

A 36-kilometer section of Sotk-Karvachar road is covered by black ice.

According to the ministry’s news release, cargo vehicles are not allowed to pass Upper Lars border checkpoint.

According to the emergency division of Georgia’s interior ministry, Stepantsminda-Lars road is open only for light cars with tire chains. --0----
