Armenia is seeing third wave of coronavirus pandemic
YEREVAN, March 16. /ARKA/. 'In fact, we see now the beginning of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic in Armenia,' Gayane Sahakyan, deputy director of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said on Monday in an interview with Azatutyun Radio.
According to her, the epidemiological situation in the country has deteriorated sharply and the hospital beds are almost all occupied, but at the moment there are no people in need of hospitalization waiting for a vacant bed in a hospital.
"Today, the reproduction rate is 1.5, which means that one person can infect 3 people. Consequently, in the next 7 days we will have at least 5 thousand new cases," she said.
Sahakyan explained that compared to the last two weeks, the number of cases of coronavirus infection has increased by 116%.
“If in the past 14 days we had 150-200 cases a day, now we have about 500-700 cases. In the next 14 days we will have to deal with 1000-1500 cases daily,” she warned.
According to her, the rate of positive cases has grown to 35% from 10%. She also said there were no new strains of coronavirus in Armenia yet. -0-
