Armenia is discussing organ transplantation, including from deceased donors
YEREVAN, July 31 — /ARKA/. A discussion on the topic "The Current State of Organ Transplantation in Armenia" was held at a meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry of Health, chaired by Minister Anahit Avanesyan.
During the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of saving lives through posthumous donation.
"This delicate topic is one of our industry's key strategic goals, and the success of this program depends on the public's understanding. The public must be informed and receive reliable information on this topic, which will bring tangible results," Avanesyan noted.
Helen Nazaryan, a consultant for the Ministry of Health on hemodialysis, presented the current state of the organ transplantation sphere in Armenia. According to Nazaryan, the transplantation of organs from living donors, particularly kidneys, livers, and bone marrow stem cells, is quite successfully implemented in Armenia.
She emphasized that Armenia currently has the capacity to begin transplanting organs from deceased donors, which would contribute to treating patients with heart failure and those in need of corneal transplants. It would also significantly increase the number of transplants for patients in need of kidney and liver transplants. This will save many lives.-0-
