YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. The State Revenue Committee has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 845 grams of cocaine into the country.
According to the agency's press service, information was recently received that a Dutch citizen who arrived in the country may have smuggled drugs. It was discovered that this citizen had arrived in Yerevan that same day on a flight from Vienna and was staying at a hotel in the capital.
The Dutch citizen was located, invited to the customs inspection area, and subjected to a personal X-ray. Suspicious foreign bodies were discovered in his stomach. He was taken to the Armenia Medical Center, where 50 capsules containing cocaine, totaling 845 grams, were recovered. He was detained.
As a result of the measures taken, the identities of those organizing the importation of drugs into Armenia and their subsequent distribution within the country were revealed. As part of the "Controlled Delivery and Purchase" operation, two individuals were arrested in Yerevan on suspicion of drug smuggling and distribution. They were later detained under the relevant articles of the Armenian Criminal Code. Searches were conducted at their residences.
A suspect or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision, in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code.
