YEREVAN, September 8. /ARKA/. A total of 354 passengers have been fined for not adhering to the payment procedures for public transport in Yerevan. This information was disclosed during a municipality meeting on Monday by Avet Babayan, the acting head of the Public Order Service at the Yerevan City Hall.

Previously, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan indicated that the first instance of a fine for payment violations in public transport was noted on August 18, despite inspections commencing two weeks prior.

"Among those fined, 227 individuals were found traveling without a ticket, 48 were using discounted tickets belonging to others, and 79 paid their fare on the spot upon the inspectors' request. Five fine decisions were contested," Babayan stated.

He further explained that if a complaint is lodged by a fined individual, a connection is made with the Yerevan Technology Management Center on-site to verify whether the payment was made or not.

"Should the payment be confirmed, we take immediate action," Babayan remarked.

Avinyan has directed the establishment of a clear appeal process, allowing citizens to reach out to the municipality before resorting to court.

"We will investigate the specific case, gather all pertinent details, and if warranted, revoke the fine. In essence, citizens should have the opportunity to directly appeal the fine to us," the mayor stated.

Regarding fines in Yerevan transport, on July 3, 2025, the Armenian Parliament enacted amendments to the Law On Automobile Transport, which introduced a fine system for traveling on Yerevan public transport without payment or utilizing another person's discounted ticket.

Consequently, a penalty of 3 thousand drams is imposed for failing to validate a ticket or carrier when boarding transportation, 10 thousand drams for utilizing transport without fare payment, and 15 thousand drams for using another person's discounted ticket.-0-
