SRC officers seize over 1.5 kg of various drugs from illegal circulation in Armenia
YEREVAN, August 13. /ARKA/. Armenian State Revenue Committee (SRC) officers found a plastic bag containing 282 grams of methamphetamine, as well as a metal container filled with 33 grams of hashish oil, when inspecting recently a truck that was to enter Armenia from Iran at the Agarak border checkpoint.
An Iranian citizen was detained on suspicion of drug smuggling and taken to the Syunik Department of the Investigative Committee, where a criminal case was initiated.
The drugs were to be hidden at a Yerevan cemetery, where SRC officers had set up an ambush. A married couple who are citizens of Armenia arrived at the cemetery. After taking the drugs from their hiding place, the couple was detained. The couple used the Telegram platform to sell drugs.
Following an interrogation, one of the detainees also handed over 327 grams of methamphetamine and 75.5 grams of marijuana to State Revenue Committee officers. The drugs had been smuggled into the country several days prior, along with tools and materials intended for packaging and selling drugs.
Additionally, 650 grams of methamphetamine were found in the hiding places of a truck operated by an Iranian citizen.
It was determined that packages of drugs had been placed in various locations throughout Yerevan for sale on the Telegram platform. During verification, investigators found a package of methamphetamine at one of the locations and seized it in accordance with the law.
As a result of operational and investigative activities, more than 1.5 kg of various types of drugs were discovered and removed from illegal circulation. Operational-search activities are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the illegal distribution of these drugs and to locate additional packages in various areas of Yerevan.-0-
