Washington says the path for resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan lies at negotiation table
YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. The path to resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan ultimately lies at the negotiating table, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press briefing on Monday.
" We have made very clear that the path forward for resolving this conflict is ultimately at the bargaining table. I don’t want to speak to any upcoming meetings, but we have always made clear that we welcome dialogue. When the Secretary has communicated with the leaders of both Armenia and Azerbaijan, he has made clear that there needs to be dialogue between the two parties. We are happy to play whatever we – role we can to facilitate that dialogue and will continue to do so, but I don’t want to preview any specific upcoming meetings.," Miller said.
At the same time, he refrained from announcing any specific upcoming meetings between the parties to the negotiations.
On April 5, the Armenian Prime Minister, the President of the European Commission, the U.S. Secretary of State and the head of USAID met in Brussels to reaffirm support for the sovereignty, democracy, territorial integrity and socio-economic resilience of the Republic of Armenia.
The statement released after the meeting notes that the European Union and the United States support a stable, peaceful, secure, democratic and prosperous future for the Republic of Armenia and the region. -0-
