YEREVAN, March 12. /ARKA/. A progress report on the visa liberalization dialogue with Armenia is scheduled to be presented on May 5 during the EU-Armenia Summit, said Magnus Bruner, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration.
"The EU wishes to further deepen ties with Armenia, which is an important partner for the EU. All processes have been intensified," Bruner noted at a joint briefing with Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan on Thursday in Yerevan.
According to him, visa liberalization will bring significant benefits to both Armenian citizens and Europeans.
"This process will simplify and make short-term travel to Europe affordable," Bruner said.
On Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization
Currently, the Republic of Armenia is the only country with which the EU is pursuing visa liberalization.
Earlier, Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan stated that actions to implement the Visa Liberalization Action Plan with the EU are within the framework of Armenia's planned reforms.
The first step is the implementation of a biometric system, specifically the provision of new biometric passports and ID cards. According to the schedule, their issuance will begin in the second half of 2026.
The French consortium, IDEMIA Identity Security France and A.C.I. Technology S.à.r.l., which won the tender, is creating the necessary infrastructure.
In April 2025, Armenia signed an agreement with HAYPASS, a company created by this consortium, which will be directly responsible for implementing the biometric passport and ID card system in Armenia.
