USAID chief: international mission should be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh immediately

YEREVAN, September 25. /ARKA/. While visiting Armenia’s southern province of Syunik today the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power said that international missions should be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh immediately.

She said they have received disturbing accounts of violence against civilians (committed by Azerbaijani soldiers) from eyewitnesses. At the same time, given the chaotic situation that has developed so far and the trauma that people have experienced, it is necessary to listen to people's stories to understand the real situation.

Some 19 thousand people have already arrived in Kornidzor of Armenia's Syunik region from Nagorno-Karabakh over the past three days, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He said more than 2,500 have been provided with housing by the government. ‘About 1,000 of them are now staying in different hotels in Syunik, 500 people in Vayk, about 500 in Gegharkunik province," he said. Khachatryan noted that some of the refugees were taken to Tavush province.

According to him, about 1,200 people remain in Goris, their resettlement is in process, the rest of the refugees said they have a place in Armenia to live.-0-
